The
163-year old telegram service in the country — the harbinger of good and bad
news for generations of Indians — is dead
Like
all good things
One
day they have to die
The
Telegram was yesterday buried
Millions
wished it bye bye.
Remember
once did receive a “taar”
Was
referred to thus when wire came from far
The
announcement was in words very few
My
grandfather had died 3 days back we just knew
With
tears the newlywed would wait to hear
When
her jawaan on the border will do come near
The
order of one who had finished an interview
Would
bring in the joy of starting life a new
With
Morse codes it relayed signals
Tap
tapping creating music
To
the hero of codes they were jingles
And
for whom it was meant it was magic
Lawyers,
Doctors, housewives and all
Film
Directors to the Marriage hall,
Now
use hi-tech SMS, Mails, chats et al
Dear
Telegram, you were once the best of all
:-)
