The Dance of Time: Reconnecting in the Age of Technology

In the grand tapestry of life, time weaves its threads in mysterious ways, sometimes bringing people together after decades of separation. Recently, I found myself immersed in a whirlwind of emotions as I reconnected with an old friend, someone I hadn't seen in a quarter of a century. The experience, though heartwarming, left me pondering the subtle impact of technology on the dynamics of human connections.

As we sat across each other, the familiarity between us was palpable, transcending the years that had elapsed since our last meeting. It was a testament to the enduring nature of friendship, a bond that time couldn't erode. Yet, in just three short minutes of conversation, the excitement that initially enveloped us seemed to dissipate, replaced by a sense of knowing each other too well. The culprit? The ever-pervasive influence of technology.

Casually mentioning my nephew's upcoming wedding, I was met with a nonchalant response from my friend. "I know, your sister and I are in the same WhatsApp group," he remarked. In that moment, the revelation struck me — the digital age had altered the very fabric of our interactions. Information flowed effortlessly through the virtual channels of social media, leaving little room for the delightful surprises and catching-up that used to define reunions.

The evening unfolded with the ease of routine. We attended a homam puja, shared laughter and stories with common friends, and dined together. However, the essence of our reunion seemed diluted, overshadowed by the efficiency of technological updates. Our conversation had become a mere supplement to the information already exchanged in the virtual realm.

Reflecting on this encounter, I couldn't help but draw a sharp contrast to another reunion, one that occurred last August in the quaint town of Calicut. Determined to reconnect with a schoolmate after a decade of separation, I embarked on an unplanned journey back in time. This friend, unlike the previous one, was not entangled in the web of social media.

As we settled in a bar, the atmosphere buzzed with nostalgia. The conversation meandered through the corridors of our shared past — from innocent crushes to the complexities of adult life. The absence of instant updates and pre-existing knowledge lent a refreshing spontaneity to our interaction. Hours slipped away unnoticed as we delved into heartfelt discussions, exploring the contours of our divergent journeys.

It was a poignant reminder that technology, while a powerful enabler, carries with it a double-edged sword. While it effortlessly connects us across time and space, it also has the potential to strip away the magic of face-to-face encounters. In a world dominated by digital interfaces, the value of genuine, unscripted conversations becomes even more precious.

As we bid farewell that evening in Calicut, I felt a swell of emotions. The profound connection forged through shared stories and genuine curiosity was a testament to the richness of human interaction, unencumbered by the immediacy of social media updates. In a world racing against time, perhaps it is these moments — free from the constant hum of notifications — that truly define the beauty of human connection. After all, in the dance of time, it is the authenticity of our shared experiences that remains etched in the tapestry of our lives.

Nurturing Volunteerism: From Glorified Worker to Meaningful Contributor

INTRODUCTION

Volunteering is a journey that starts with genuine enthusiasm and the desire to make a positive impact. However, for some volunteers, the path may inadvertently lead to feeling like a glorified worker or even a ceremonial piece, with their contributions overshadowed or diminished. In this blog post, I delve into the dynamics of volunteerism, exploring the common pitfalls that may turn a dedicated volunteer into a symbolic figure and discussing strategies to maintain a meaningful and fulfilling role.

BODY

1. The Enthusiastic Beginnings: What It Takes to Be a Volunteer

Becoming a volunteer begins with a passion for a cause, a willingness to give time and effort, and a genuine desire to make a difference. Volunteers often start as active contributors, engaged in the day-to-day tasks that are vital to the success of the organization or project.

2. Glorified Worker: Balancing Contribution with Recognition

As volunteers dive into their roles, they might find themselves taking on tasks that resemble the responsibilities of paid staff. While this can be a testament to their dedication, the risk arises when their contributions are not appropriately acknowledged. Being a glorified worker involves actively participating in the workload but missing out on the recognition and appreciation for their efforts.

3. Transition to a Ceremonial Piece: The Danger of Symbolic Roles

Unfortunately, some volunteers may find their roles evolving into mere symbolic gestures. Whether due to a lack of communication, changing organizational dynamics, or a failure to recognize individual contributions, volunteers can feel reduced to ceremonial pieces—present but not actively engaged in the meaningful work they signed up for.

4. Active Engagement: Strategies to Stay Involved

To avoid slipping into a symbolic role, volunteers must actively engage with the organization. This includes regular communication with leaders and fellow volunteers, seeking feedback on contributions, and participating in decision-making processes. By staying informed and involved, volunteers can ensure that their efforts are recognized and valued.

5. Seeking Recognition: Advocating for Your Contributions

Recognition is a crucial element of volunteer satisfaction. Volunteers should not shy away from advocating for themselves. This involves showcasing their achievements, expressing their goals, and ensuring that their dedication is acknowledged by the organization and the community they serve.

6. Maintaining Meaningful Contributions: Balancing Act of Dedication

A key aspect of remaining a valuable contributor is maintaining a balance between dedication and self-awareness. While volunteers are driven by passion, it's essential to communicate boundaries, set realistic expectations, and ensure that their contributions align with personal and organizational goals.

CONCLUSION

Volunteerism is a dynamic and evolving journey that requires proactive engagement and communication. From the initial stages of enthusiastic participation to the risk of becoming a ceremonial figure, volunteers have the power to shape their own experiences. By actively seeking recognition, maintaining meaningful contributions, and staying engaged in the cause, volunteers can ensure that their journey remains fulfilling, impactful, and true to the spirit of selfless service.

ROOTING BELIEF IN WISDOM

I've been studying the Geeta, and the profound wisdom has become the basis for my beliefs. When I look at different religions, I do it with a critical eye, judging their customs and celebrations based on what I think is good or bad.

I hope that people who have explored and chosen their own beliefs, rather than inheriting them from birth, will also try to understand my perspective. True religion goes beyond rules, traditions, and intellectual arguments; it's about personal growth and understanding. It doesn't just rely on ancient experiences but encourages each person to seek their own insights.

To me, religion is closely connected to nature, as seen in how many religions mention divine elements in things like rivers, mountains, trees, animals, and the Earth. It represents the highest level of human thinking and existence, a way to discover ourselves and connect with the world around us.

EMBRACING VERSATILITY

EMBRACING VERSATILITY: A Celebration of My Renaissance Journey in a Specialized World

In a world that prizes specialization, I find solace in the age-old wisdom of 'Jack of all, master of none, but better than a master of one.' It's a testament to the beauty of versatility, a celebration of the diverse tapestry that is the human experience.

Embracing this philosophy has sculpted me into a multidimensional being, a tapestry woven from threads of various passions and pursuits. It's a reminder that life is a grand canvas, and I choose to paint it with a palette of many colors.

Yet, let us not forget the respect owed to specialists, for they are the architects of depth in their chosen fields. This philosophy is not a dismissal of expertise but an ode to the breadth of knowledge. In an era of rapid change, the ability to grasp the essence of many subjects is a valuable asset.

My journey has been a symphony of hobbies and endeavors, a dance between the worlds of art, science, and entrepreneurship. And from this eclectic mix, I offer counsel and insights across diverse domains.

I firmly believe that being a 'Jack of all trades' has honed my adaptability, sharpened my intellect, and fortified my resilience. It equips us to navigate the complex, ever-evolving challenges of the modern world.

'Jack of all,' for in the mosaic of skills and experiences, we discover not just versatility but also the richness of the human spirit.

SHUTTERED IN FEAR - AN EERIE ENCOUNTER

On World Photography Day, a young and passionate photographer named Dee decided to venture deep into the woods in search of a legendary mystery house, a place whispered about among the locals for generations. This house was said to be hidden by the dense forest, its secrets concealed by a curtain of towering trees.

With his camera bag slung over his shoulder and a determined gleam in his eye, Dee set out on his quest. The journey was like stepping into a fairy tale forest. Tall, ancient trees stretched their branches overhead, forming a verdant canopy that blocked out most of the sunlight. Birds sang enchanting melodies, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of moss and pine.

Dee hiked for hours, following an old, winding trail that seemed to have been carved out by countless footsteps over the years. His camera clicked and whirred as he captured the beauty of the forest, the play of light and shadow, and the intricate details of leaves, ferns, and mushrooms.

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows, Dee's heart quickened with excitement. He had reached the spot where the mystery house was rumored to be hidden. He pushed through a tangle of underbrush and there it was, emerging like a mirage from the depths of the woods.

The mystery house was unlike any other he had seen. Its timeworn wooden exterior was draped in ivy, and the roof sagged with age. It stood as if frozen in time, a silent sentinel guarding its enigmatic past.

With his camera in hand, Dee approached the house. He marveled at the play of light and shadows on its weathered walls, capturing the beauty of decay in every shot. Every creak of the old wooden boards beneath his feet seemed to echo through the forest, as if the house itself whispered its secrets to him.

Gingerly, Dee pushed open the heavy front door, revealing a world that time had forgotten. Dust motes danced in the beams of sunlight that filtered through the cobweb-covered windows. Forgotten relics of a bygone era lay scattered throughout the rooms—an old-fashioned typewriter, a dusty collection of books, and faded photographs of people who had long since passed away.

As he explored further, Dee noticed a staircase leading to the upper floors. He climbed the creaking steps, his camera ready to capture whatever mysteries lay above. Each room held its own story, its own secrets, and he felt like an archaeologist unearthing the past through his lens.

But as the day waned into evening, Dee couldn't shake the feeling that he was not alone in the house. Whispers seemed to emanate from the walls, and shadows danced in the corners of his vision. The mystery house seemed to come alive with an otherworldly presence, as if it resented the intrusion into its long-guarded secrets.

With his heart pounding, Dee captured one last photograph—a hauntingly beautiful shot of a dust-covered mirror that seemed to reflect a different time and place. Then, he made his way back outside, leaving the mystery house behind.

As he stood in the fading light of the forest, Dee knew that the photographs he had taken would forever immortalize the enigmatic house and its hidden tales. On World Photography Day, he had uncovered a mystery, captured its essence, and shared it with the world, all while surrounded by the timeless beauty of the woods and the secrets they held.

CARRY YOUR FLAG ON YOUR WINGS

Nature has its own way of speaking to us, and in the flight of birds, we find a silent but profound message. Just like us, they too carry their own unique "flag" on their wings. As birds soar through the open skies, their feathers become a symbol of their identity, beauty, and freedom. Each feather is a brushstroke on the canvas of nature, reflecting the diversity and unity that surround us

Winds guide birds to new horizons; our flag guides us toward the limitless possibilities that await. As they carry their "flag," we too have the opportunity to showcase our individuality and values, letting them guide us through the winds of life.

NATURE THRIVES WITH THE LAW OF WASTED EFFORTS

Imagine a dense forest ecosystem where various plants, animals, and microorganisms coexist. In this ecosystem, every organism has a unique role and contributes to the overall balance. Now, consider a fallen tree within the forest. It might seem like a wasted effort for the tree to fall and decompose, but this "wasted effort" is actually a crucial part of the ecosystem's thriving.

As the fallen tree decomposes, it provides a habitat for insects, fungi, and microorganisms. These decomposers break down the wood, releasing nutrients into the soil. The nutrients then nourish nearby plants, enabling them to grow stronger and healthier. In turn, these plants provide food and shelter for animals, completing the cycle.

While the fallen tree might appear to be a "wasted effort" from a purely individual perspective, it contributes to the ecosystem's efficiency as a whole. The energy and resources invested in the tree's growth are not truly wasted; they are redistributed and recycled, supporting the interconnected web of life in the forest.

This analogy reflects how nature often operates, with seemingly inefficient processes contributing to the overall balance and sustainability of ecosystems. And just as nature achieves balance and sustainability through seemingly inefficient processes, humans can also find harmony and growth by embracing challenges and setbacks as opportunities for personal development.

𝓗𝓪𝓹𝓹𝔂 𝓘𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓹𝓮𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓮 𝓓𝓪𝔂

The longing to have wings and soar through the sky, observing the Earth from a distant vantage point, is a potent desire. It's accompanied by the yearning to venture into the woods, where the sounds of various creatures become a symphony, and the act of finding sustenance in the natural orchard becomes a means of survival.

The weariness of the myriad excuses that society presents is palpable – they've become tiresome and mundane. These excuses stand in stark contrast to the creative pursuits and personal tasks that often remain forgotten and neglected, stored away in the confines of a drawer.

The decision is made to rebel against the established order and embark on a journey of runcation – a break from the expected and conventional education. This is a deliberate act of breaking free from the restraints that education sometimes imposes, allowing oneself to explore uncharted territories of thought and experience.

The plea for wings is a plea for liberation – a desire to break away from the norm and experience the world from an unencumbered perspective. The yearning to explore the world and bear witness to its marvels is powerful, as it beckons one to uncover the mysteries and beauty that lie beyond the horizon.

There's a poignant realization that if life were meant to be static, like rooted plants, feet would be replaced by roots. However, the spirit within seeks not a stationary existence, but that of a nomad – roaming freely and embracing the unknown. The allure of uncharted realms, waiting to be discovered and embraced, becomes the driving force behind this profound desire for exploration and self-discovery.

WHERE DO BIRDS DIE

Have you ever wondered where wild animals go when they die? It turns out that there's no such thing as an Elephant's Graveyard or any other wild animal graveyard. When a wild animal dies, bacteria, insects, small animals, larger animals and vultures all contribute to breaking the body down so that the dead animal disappears after only a few days. But what about birds? Where do they go to die?

This is a question that my friend, Surekha, recently asked, and the answers are stranger than you might think. Despite their abundance, one never sees bodies of dead birds lying around. Rarely one does see bird remains left behind by a careless cat, but lying around dead from a natural cause? Never!

After browsing bird watching sites and skimming through ornithology resources, I found no concrete answers, just vague and funny ones. However, a philosopher once concluded that birds had an inner sensory device that told them when it was time to die, similar to bees. On the premonition of death, they too, like the bees, rise up higher and higher until they disintegrate in the upper air. This unpublished theory is the closest answer to my query.

This thought-provoking theory raises the question: are humans really at the apex of the evolution pyramid? If we go by the philosopher's hypothesis on the dying pattern of birds, then it would not be out of place to conclude that birds are at a higher plane than humans since they actually know when they are going to die, something that even the so-called evolved, aware, and intelligent human race does not know!

What do you think? Do you have any theories on where birds go to die?

Beauty of Bokeh.

INCUBATION OF AN IDEA:

Once a girl was enjoying a mango, the pulp was sweet and juicy. At the end the mere seed was left in her hand. For long she looked at it and got flooded with so many thoughts, admiring the shape, the little budge and the slowly drying hair like fibers. She put it on the window slab. Slowly, it dried and from inside the seed started crackling. She sowed it to germinate.

THE FORMATION OF A BODY:

Her good friend, who had knowledge about plants saw the sapling of a good quality food, advised her that she should plant it properly for it to grow into a good tree giving fruits. True learning started to happen and with care and purpose the tree took a good shape. More learning happened about the amount of water that should be used to irrigate, and the medicinal spray that need to be applied for its good health. With the involvement of many individuals the tree grew up and the girl learnt a lot and was happy.

SEASON OF FRUIT:

Soon the tree was filled with promising flowers and a little shower from the sky made great fruits. The love and care by the girl and all those who were involved ensured that the fruits ripped properly.

MARKETPLACE:

Soon the professionals, those that mattered started evaluating the fruits and putting a price on the yield. The girl and the others involved felt happy with moistened eyes looking at all the appreciation the fruit they nurtured to grow for years was getting.

BENEFECIARY:

The first yield was sold out on the first day itself, much to the happiness of everyone, and then the next and it continued till the last mango fruit was sold out. People took Kilos, and basketfuls to their home and everyone ate it in their own style. Some annoyed that the one in their hand was very small, the others that it had not yet ripen enough, but at large all enjoyed it the way it was.

RECOGNTION:

No one actually bothers to look at the toil a founder and the volunteer makes for a purposeful concept, the hurdles they undergo to make things happen and the emotions involved. The comment about the fruit, if it is sweet or sour is liberally said with no pangs. Until one day, a committee of planters recognizes the efforts and honors the owner of the tree.

BEAUTY OF A BOKEH:
As usual, the selfless volunteers who remain as bokeh are the happiest.

SAGA OF A BLOOD DONOR

A Person:

As humans when we grow, we grow making and etching millions of memories and life stories. I love telling my own. When I was in the standard ten in school, I became the Chairman of Coimbatore’s elite Cosmo Jaycees’ youth club. It was a community based club and perhaps I was the youngest chairman in the history of this society. Someone suggested Blood Donation as our first project, and with 7 of my classmates, now members of the club donated blood for the first time. This was in the ear 1984 and the rest is history. Till date I have donated 143 times.

November of 2022 hit me hard, I was diagnosed with hive level of diabetics, and I lost my eye vision partially. I know I was not the first person on this planet to have got it, my mother and most in her family has it and Doctor’s said it is hereditary. I was never under bigger depression. I had to fight, took all the remedial methods, went with a strict diet, fitness regime and supported myself with the required medicines. I had to challenge this, not just for myself but for the mission I have in my life.

Today, after four months I have gradually come back, with diabetics in normal counts and visual acuity. What matters is not that I am back to normal levels of diabetics but I am able to donate my blood again.

A Donor:

Very few realize the efforts a blood donor puts in to make his donation. It is not just taking out a few notes of currency as donation and giving off. When a call is made, the donor plans the visit to the hospital of asking, adjusting his/her work schedule and spending a minimum of 2-3 hours of active life to donate and make sure that the person in need is served indeed. Leave alone the expenses incurred in travel which many a times are not less than 20+ kms both ways.  Add the most important fact that a voluntary donor has to live a pious life of not drinking and smoking for most of his life so that he/she can donate blood. The Gym goers have to give up practice for a few days, and all donors have to maintain food and liquid intake for at least 2 more days. A Donor will never talk about these.

The Society:

With one unit of blood now-a- days almost 5 people can benefit and if I have donated 143 times of full blood till date then I could have easily made 715 blood relatives and at least 3575 family members. What hurts me most is that the donors are taken for granted by the society and professionals. Where a donor’s hemoglobin should be the yardstick the call is made to fetch “MALE DONORS” presuming females not fit as they menstruate every 28 days.

The culture of Blood donation camp was started eons ago to motivate and create awareness of the process when the media and communication was farfetched. Today it is like milking the cow to fill the coffers of some so called reputed organizations. The Donors are called in like cattle and rarely respected or recognized.

Volunteer:

A motivated volunteer is always positive and does not wait for any recognition. They are the unsung heroes who stand when the near and dear ones of the patient dust their hands. I am appalled by the fact that there will be a crowd of family persons hunting for donors when a few of them can easily volunteer to give the replacement unit to the hospital.

Prayer:

Do not bleed them at commemorative camps, as young and first time donors are mostly gullible.

Respect and Recognize Blood Donors, now you know how much they go through to remain active donors.

Blood donors are not found in directories ... BECOME A BLOOD DONOR TODAY - Don't let fools or mosquitoes suck your blood, put it to good use. Donate blood and save a life- when someone gives – someone lives.
